Ever wondered what the best lacing option is for you? Read on to find out more about corset lacing, including ribbon, cord and fan lacing to discover what’s best...
If you want to make the most out your corset and meet your own unique needs, it’s important to become familiar with the different options for lacing to determine what will work best for you. Corsets can be laced with ribbon or cord lacing, and each has benefits and drawbacks. Read on to find out more about corset lacing, and what’s best for you….
Option #1 - Ribbon Lacing
Ribbon lacing might be your lacing of choice if you are mostly concerned with how your corset looks. Ribbon lacing looks very pretty, and is typically inexpensive to change and easy to source in a variety of colours, giving you lots of options to switch up your corset style. This option is lightweight and flat, making it easy to disguise under clothing if you prefer to wear your corset discreetly.
There are a few downsides to ribbon lacing. One of which is that it isn’t suitable for tight lacing - it can easily pull when you try and lace your corset too tightly and will need replacing fairly often if you do choose to lace your corset quite tight. In addition, a double knot can become very small making it difficult to undo.
Option #2 - Cord Lacing
The next option available to lace your corset is cord lacing. This is a great option if you’re looking for something really durable and reliable. Cord lacing wears very well, and doesn’t slip. It’s also easy to undo and is perfect for tight lacing. When it comes to lacing your corset using cord, it glides through the eyelets easily. At Corset Story we specifically use flat cord lacing for this purpose, whereas round lacing doesn’t slide through quite so easily.
The only downsides to cord lacing is that you will end up with a fair bit of excess lace, which can be difficult to disguise. Cord lacing tends to be a bit heavier, and there are fewer colours to choose from than with ribbon lacing.
Option #3 - Fan Lacing
Fan lacing is also another option, but it’s an option few people have heard of. At Corset Story, we have developed this unique form of lacing which we make in ribbon to offer a super low profile. The fan lacing method allows the wearer to tension the lacing from the side of the corset and offers the aesthetic benefits that ribbon provides, while also allowing you to lace your corset tightly and securely. This unique lacing method is a great option for those that can’t choose between ribbon and cord lacing.
As you can see, the various lacing methods offer both positives and negatives - it’s really about deciding what works best for you based on your own unique needs.
